Nassau County Legislator Denise Ford honored Long Beach High School’s champion wrestlers at the Legislative Meeting on Monday, March 19, 2007. Long Beach’s pride was at an all time high recently as four star wrestlers emerged from Long Beach High School. In recognition of their success, Legislator Ford bestowed Certificates of Recognition upon each of the young men for their outstanding achievements.
One of the stars is senior Eduardo Delgado who was the runner up in the 152 pound category in this year’s New York State wrestling championships held in Albany. Last year, Eduardo was the winner of the 140 pound category. Also honored was Dane Davis who took second place in Nassau County and qualified for the state championships. Congratulations were also given to Tim McCormack for receiving the highest number of pins in the least amount of time in the state this year. Missing from the meeting, but worthy of mention was senior, P.J. Gillespie who, after three straight third-place finishes in three years at the state competition, won the state championship title in the 145 pound category.
“Congratulations! Wrestling is a big part of the athletics in Long Beach and I am so proud to represent the community in honoring these young men. Credit must also be given to Ray Adams, the Long Beach High School wrestling coach, and Leo Palacio, the assistant coach, for their leadership and determination,” stated Legislator Ford.
