Legislator Dunne Seeks WWII Veterans to visit D.C. Memorial

Nassau County Legislator Dennis Dunne, Sr., is urging all Nassau County veterans of World War II to join “Honor Flight Long Island” for the opportunity to visit the WWII Memorial in Washington D.C. at no cost.  HFLI helps to honor the brave men & women who served their country and are now in the twilight of their lives. HFLI is part of a national Honor Flight organization, thatfliesveterans to Washington, D.C. to see their memorial(and other sights in Washington) --- absolutely for FREE!

There are approximately 40,000 World War II Veterans on Long Island and in the five boroughs of New York City. To date, HFLI has flown approximately 900 of those great men and women to see their Washington D.C. Memorial.  In addition to a free flight, HFLI provides each veteran with a guardian escort for the day, bus transportation in D.C and breakfast, lunch and dinner.

“Our urgent mission is to see that EVERY World War II Veteran in our area who wishes to visit the Memorial will get his wish. We're not ready to rest! Help us find every eligible member of this Greatest Generation before it's too late,” said Chris Cosich, HFLI President.  “Guardians pay their own way for the privilege to escort a veteran to their memorial and it's truly a life changing event ... for both the veteran and volunteer!”

“It is my pleasure to help the men and women who have given so much for the freedom of our country,” said Legislator Dunne, a U.S. Marine wounded in Viet Nam.  “Every vet should sign up for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity!”

They are called on a first-come-first-served basis so encourage all to submit an application.
