Jacobs Wins Re-election in 16th Legislative District

Nassau County Presiding Officer Judy Jacobs (D-Woodbury) won re-election to the 16th Legislative District seat on Tuesday, November 6 by nearly 3,000 votes.

The win, which reflected strong support for the Democratic majority’s efforts over the past six years to maintain the county’s financial health and steer it towards a steady future, maintained a 10-9 edge for the Democrats in the legislature and ensured the county executive’s agenda would continue to move forward.

“I am humbled by the continued trust and support of my constituents,” Legislator Jacobs said.  “I will continue to work hard for my district and to never lose sight of our local issues.”

The district covers parts of Bethpage, Cove Neck, East Norwich, Jericho, Laurel Hollow, Muttontown, Oyster Bay, Oyster Bay Cove, Plainview, Syosset, and Woodbury. There are 18,302 registered Republicans, 19,592 registered Democrats, and 23,985 voters in minor parties or who are unaffiliated.

During her last term in office, Legislator Jacobs presided over a legislature that saw the passage of a $100 million environmental bond, legislation that punishes party hosts for serving alcohol to underage party guests, the increasing of the legal age to buy tobacco products from 18 to 19, and numerous road and capital improvement projects in the 16th District.

Looking to the future, Legislator Jacobs and her Majority colleagues will be supporting the County Executive's initiatives to seriously address consolidation in an effort to lower property taxes.

“I will continue to fight for my district’s taxpayers against the unfair tax burden from Albany,” said Legislator Jacobs.

A former teacher in the Elmont School District, she received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Hunter College where she also did graduate work.
