Mangano Selects Three-Star NYPD Chief As Next Nassau County Police Commissioner

Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano today announced his selection of Thomas V. Dale as Nassau County’s next Commissioner of Police. Thomas Dale, a resident of Nassau County, currently serves as Chief of Personnel in the New York Police Department (NYPD) and has been an exemplary NYPD sworn member for over 40 years. Dale is one of only eight three-star chiefs in all of New York City.

“Tom Dale has spent a lifetime keeping our region safe from petty criminals to terror suspects. He has the valuable experience and distinguished record necessary to lead the Nassau County Police Department,” said County Executive Mangano. “From operations to performance management on the streets and problems highlighted in the Inspector General’s investigation of the crime laboratory, the Nassau County Police Department is at a crossroads and will benefit from Tom’s experience and leadership. I have the utmost confidence that Tom Dale will succeed in leading the department down the right road for community and taxpayers.”

Dale presently serves as NYPD Chief of Personnel where he has been accountable for the human resource responsibilities of 52,000 employees. Dale served as Assistant Chief in Queens County, commanding all police operational and administrative functions for over 2,200 members of the patrol force and coordinated all police activity, including narcotics, detectives, emergency services, counter-terrorism activities and community relations. During this period, Queens County saw a reduction of 17% in major crime. Dale rose through the ranks working in the patrol and detective divisions, organized crime control bureau and on the terrorist taskforce.

“I thank County Executive Mangano for this opportunity to serve the people of Nassau County and lead one of the nations’ best and brightest law enforcement agencies,” said Dale. “Nassau County is one of the safest large counties in the nation and I will work tirelessly to ensure it stays that way because I live here too.”

Thomas and his wife of 41 years, Maureen, reside in the Town of Oyster Bay. Together, Tom and Maureen have two children and four grandchildren.
