Mangano: County Police Team-Up With Target For “Shop With A Cop” Program

Making the Holidays Brighter for Children

Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano today announced that Nassau County Police Officers will be partnering with Target for the “Shop with a Cop” Program, to provide a brighter Christmas for 20 youths in the Westbury and Levittown communities. Target’s “Shop with a Cop” event fosters a strong relationship between youth and police officers by pairing local law enforcement officers with youth in need, to shop for holiday gifts for the children’s families. The event is being hosted on Wednesday, December 7th at the Target in Westbury and on Thursday, December 8th at the Target in Levittown.

“The ‘Shop with a Cop’ event works on so many levels. Our police officers will enjoy it as much as the children and we’re thrilled to participate with Target in this initiative,” said County Executive Mangano. “This will be a holiday to remember for these children. It’s a wonderful opportunity for them to interact with police officers in a positive way and in the holiday spirit.”

Each child will receive a $100.00 gift card and will be escorted throughout the store by a uniformed police officer; Target employees will also be present to assist the children throughout the event. The children who are participating in the program attend the following Westbury schools: Drexel Avenue School, Park Avenue School, Powells Lane School, Westbury Middle School and Westbury High School. In Levittown the participating schools are Gardiners School, East Broadway School, Salk Middle School and Division Avenue High School.

No taxpayer funds will be used to support this event.
