County Clerk O’Connell Honors Students
(Mineola, NY) Nassau County Clerk Maureen O’Connell joined Wantagh High School for the 2009 Senior Awards Ceremony to present two outstanding members of this year’s graduating class with the County Clerk Award, Andrew Aponte and Samantha Catron. This award is given to students who have demonstrated a commitment to community service, excelled academically, and exemplified leadership skills among their peers.
A member of the science and math competition teams, Andrew’s greatest interest throughout his high school career has been in these subjects earning many accolades. As an honor student, he is a member of the National Honor Society and National Art Honor Society, through which he has volunteered his time with the elderly and for various school programs. Andrew has been a part of the track and field team competing with focus and dedication.
Samantha, ranked third in her class, has developed her desire for learning through rigorous course schedules including primarily honors, advanced placement and college level courses during her high school career. A member of the National Honor Society and the Foreign Language Honor Society, she has always offered support and guidance in the school community. Samantha has also pursued her interests participating in the Leadership Skills Club, Model Congress and the Vocal Jazz group, while receiving many awards and distinctions.
County Clerk O’Connell congratulates Samantha, Andrew and the entire Wantagh High School Class of 2009 on their wonderful achievements and wishes them well on their graduation.
