(MINEOLA – January 10, 2006) The Clerk’s office, which is steeped in the history of Nassau County, is now home to its 11th County Clerk since the County’s inception in 1899. Former Assemblywoman Maureen O’Connell, surrounded by friends, family and a number of state, county and town dignitaries, was sworn into office as Nassau County Clerk by Chief Administrative Judge of Nassau County, Anthony Marano at the Mineola Village Hall. 

After taking her oath and thanking her husband Donald and their son Don for all their support, she addressed those gathered by saying, “the operations of this office are vitally important to the residents of Nassau County. “But let me further say that these operations pose a challenge and an opportunity I look forward to and pledge to improve over the next four years.” 

“County Clerk O’Connell is a person of great integrity and moral character,” said Justice Marano.  “She has a proven record of leadership and is a tireless advocate for the residents of Nassau County”.  Justice Marano is responsible for the supervision of nearly 100 Justices and judges.

The new County Clerk pointed out that she met with Nassau County Executive Thomas Suozzi, who was among those gathered, and he has pledged his full support to her to make sure she receives whatever she needs to be successful.   “I am committed to working cooperatively and progressively with everyone in the Nassau County government family and also in the private sector to improve the operations of the Clerk’s office,” concluded O’Connell.
