COUNTY CLERK ENCOURAGES BREAST CANCER AWARENESS

(Mineola, NY)  As a registered nurse, Nassau County Clerk Maureen O’Connell understands the importance of healthcare issues.  When detected early and confined to the breast, survival rate of breast cancer is 98%.   Clerk O’Connell joins with the Adelphi New York Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline & Support Program in their October breast cancer awareness campaign to encourage women to get mammograms.

Ms. O’Connell has been involved for many years with the Adelphi Breast Cancer Hotline.  She advises women to contact the Hotline at 1-800-877-8077 for further information and to find an accredited mammography facility.   Callers can also get emotional support from the hotline’s specially trained volunteers, most of who are women who have had breast cancer.

The hotline has been in existence for over three decades.  It is a project of the Adelphi University School of Social Work on Long Island.  All services are free.  The website is www.adelphi.edu/nysbreastcancer.com.
