Agnes Delaportas, her family and friends, were joined by Nassau County Clerk Maureen O’Connell and Mineola Village Trustee Paul Pereira in recognizing the outstanding Mineola senior on her 90th birthday.  Clerk O’Connell presented the celebrant with a Citation in acknowledgement of her lifetime of service and achievement. 

Agnes Delaportas was born in New York City in August of 1921.  She began working at age 14 in the electronics industry and earned certificates of merit for her work.  Honored by the Navy with an award for her service, Agnes was a real life “Rosie the Riveter” who worked for the Navy in Syosset, making electronic parts for war planes during World War II. 

Mrs. Delaportas was married in 1941.  Having moved to Mineola in 1956, she lives in the same house today.  Agnes continued working until her retirement at age 65.  At the “young” age of 90, she enjoys being an active member of the Mineola Golden Age Club, Mineola Leisure Club and Mineola AARP Chapter. 

Ever gracious and grateful, Agnes Delaportas says about her life, “God has been very good to me.”
