Nassau County Comptroller George Maragos and his staff were recognized by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for excellence in financial reporting. The GFOA award is for excellence in the County’s 2010 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report.
Comptroller Maragos accepted a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the non-profit professional association. According to the GFOA, “the Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.”
"It is an honor that the GFOA continues to recognize the excellent work the financial professionals in my office produce year after year,” Comptroller Maragos said. “This award means that our financial statements have been judged by an impartial panel to meet the highest standards for accuracy. I want to congratulate the entire staff of the Comptroller’s Accounting Division.”
Nassau County’s Comprehensive Annual Financial Report, issued last June, includes general-purpose financial statements, as well as the independent auditor’s report prepared by Deloitte & Touche, LLP.
