New Hyde Park, N.Y. – Knowing the challenge of restoring fiscal stability to Nassau County government, George Maragos vowed to protect every taxpayer dollar when he was sworn in today as Nassau County Comptroller at The INN at New Hyde Park.
"The County’s taxpayers made it clear in November that they have had enough with government fiscal irresponsibility, overspending and high taxes.” Comptroller Maragos said. “Working together with County Executive Mangano, we will fix the property tax assessment system that is bleeding nearly $100 million annually, we will streamline government to reduce costs and balance the budget.”
Maragos brings over 35 years of business world experience. He is the Founder of SDS Financial Technologies, a growing organization providing financial information and online trading services to the financial industry in New York for over 20 years.
"I couldn’t be more thrilled to be working with a professional like George,” County Executive Edward Mangano said. “It is no secret the County has a lot of challenges ahead of us but with professionals like George I have no doubt that we will meet those challenges.”
The Comptroller’s Office will also encourage School Districts to consolidate and share back office services to control costs, and will focus audits on improving tax revenuecollections.
Mr. Maragos holds a Masters in Business Administration from Pace University in New York City, and a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering Degree from McGill University in Montreal. Mr. Maragos has been married for 36 years to Angela and has two sons, a daughter-in-law and a granddaughter.
