Comptroller Maragos: Sales Tax 6.7% Higher than Last Year Excluding Energy Tax

Surpasses Budget Projections

Nassau County Comptroller George Maragos said that the County’s 2010 sales tax collection came in at a robust 6.7% higher than 2009 not including the energy tax. The overall increase was 6.1%, including energy tax.

The County surpassed the 2010 budget projection by $6.2 million. The total sales tax receipts for 2010 were $1.009 billion.

"The economy is expected to continue its steady improvement during 2011 and with it the consumer purchasing momentum, which should result in higher sales tax revenues,” Comptroller Maragos said. “We conservatively project that sales tax revenues will increase in 2011 by a further 3.75% or $38 million to $1.047 billion.”
