Mangano Unveils Nassau’s First Solar Panel Park
Center for Science Teaching and Learning at Tanglewood Preserve Transformed into “Green” Building
Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano today unveiled Nassau’s first Solar Panel Park at the Center for Science Teaching and Learning (CSTL) at Tanglewood Preserve. $284,000 in funding from Nassau County’s 2004 Environmental Bond Act included $55,000 that enabled CSTL to install 50 solar panels - which was completed in November- and the Center is now producing enough energy to run its entire 4,445 square-foot facility.
“The ongoing efforts of organizations such as CSTL to be more environmentally conscious are what makes Nassau County a leader in the State of New York for energy efficiency,” said County Executive Mangano. “This project is a great example of how government, not-for-profits, and the private sector can partner together to develop alternative energy sources and reduce costs.”
“CSTL is always looking for new and innovative ways to aid in the reduction of damaging impact on the environment,” said Dr. Ray Ann Havasy, President and Founder of the Center for Science Teaching and Learning.

About Tanglewood Preserve
An 11-acre park and preserve, Tanglewood provides a lovely nature trail and a beautifully renovated brick walkway surrounding a pond. The pond has been restocked with fish by the New York State Bureau of Fisheries and fishing is allowed (those under 16 years of age are not required to havea fishing license).
