Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano today congratulated two Nassau County police officers who saved a life by transporting a Nassau woman to Montefiore Hospital in the Bronx for a liver transplant.

“Without the actions of these officers, this woman would not have made it in time and probably would have lost her chance for a life-saving transplant,” said Mangano. “They are true heroes.”

The woman, who lives in Atlantic Beach, has been on a waiting list for a liver transplant. At approximately 9:15 a.m. today, the police were called to assist her in getting to the hospital when a liver became available.

Officer Robert Prince drove a department-issued four-wheel drive vehicle, followed by Officer Jacek Trybala.

The woman was picked up and en route to Montefiore an escort was provided by members of the NYPD. The Nassau woman arrived on time and underwent the surgery.

“I could not be prouder of the men and women of the Nassau County Police Department,” said Mangano. “Despite a brutal snowstorm and treacherous driving conditions, these officers were determined to get this Nassau resident to the Bronx and her date with destiny. I am happy to say they succeeded.”
