Mangano Strikes Bi-Partisan Agreement to Pass $166 Million Capital Improvement Project Plan

Accord creates jobs in Nassau County

 

Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano today joined Presiding Officer Peter Schmitt and Minority Leader Diane Yatauro to announce the unanimous passage of the 2010 Capital Improvement Project Plan.

“This plan creates jobs and opportunities today and improves Nassau County’s services and public safety,” said Mangano. “It will establish the new 911 call center and begin to address issues at our sewage treatment plants.”

Presiding Officer Peter Schmitt said, “Once again, under this administration, with the concurrence of the Republican Majority of the Legislature, we have addressed the needs of the residents, the unions and the economy.  By pumping $166 million into the Long Island economy, work can start on needed improvement projects, broken roads, and upgrading a faltering infrastructure.”

 Mangano proposed a plan that includes:

  •        Over $18.5 million in park maintenance and improvements;
  •        $7 million for new 911 call center
  •        Much needed repair to Jackson Ave. in Syosset;
  •        $31 million in road and traffic improvements;
  •        More than $5 million for a county-wide green energy initiative as part of the action;
  •        Increased funding for improvements to Cedar Creek and Bay Park Sewage Treatment Plants;
  •        $550,000 for the Nassau County Fire Service Academy
  •        Maintenance and improvement at Udall’s Pond

 

“I am pleased to join County Executive Mangano and Presiding Officer Schmitt to announce this bipartisan agreement on the 2010 Capital Plan,” said Yatauro. “We have assurances from the administration that key projects such as Udall’s Pond, Jackson Avenue, Nassau Road, Stannards Brook Park and Woodcleft Park will be completed. Residents will benefit. Jobs will be created. Our local economy will be stimulated. This is a great day for Nassau County.”

Capital projects for 2010 include road maintenance and rehabilitation, park and facility infrastructure improvements, technology upgrades and other key upgrades.
