Mangano Announces Donation of Bullet-Proof Vests to Troops in Middle East

Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano today announced that the County has donated 173 bullet-proof vests belonging to the Probation Department to troops stationed in the Mideast.

“These vests will help protect the lives of the brave members of our military who fight for our country every day,” said County Executive Mangano. “Nassau County is proud to help our service members in any way we can.”

The vests are manufactured by Second Chance and Point Blank, and are mostly threat level II and III with Kevlar-reinforced inserts. They will be shipped through give2thetroops.com, a non-profit organization that distributes needed supplies to troops overseas. While the vests have outlived their warranties, they can still be used by the troops for additional protection.

The announcement came during a “Pizza 4 Patriots” event held at Pappardelle’s Pizza in Bethpage. “Pizza 4 Patriots” is a non-profit organization that has partnered with DHL to deliver pizzas to service members stationed all over the world. Pappardelle’s Pizza is the only New York supplier in the “Pizza 4 Patriots” program, which is aiming to ship pizzas to troops in five continents in time for the upcoming July Fourth holiday.

“The ‘Pizza 4 Patriots’ program performs a great service to our troops abroad,” said County Executive Mangano. “I am thrilled that Nassau County’s own Pappardelle’s Pizza, will be sending a ‘slice of home’ to our brave men and women who are serving overseas.”
