Mangano Announces Start of Nassau County Pool Season

Outdoor Pool Open Now Through Labor Day

Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano today announced the start ofNassau County’s pool season.  Four of Nassau County’s outdoor swimming pool complexes opened today. The outdoor pools at Nickerson Beach Park opened earlier, on Saturday, June 19th.

“Nassau County pools are officially open for summer fun,” said County Executive Mangano.  “Our pools offer thousands of residents and visitors each year a great way to cool down during the hot summer months.”

The County’s pool complexes include three comprehensive “water theme” facilities at Cantiague Park in Hicksville, North Woodmere Park and Wantagh Park. The water theme parks incorporate Olympic-size swimming pools, diving pools, “kiddie” pools, interactive water-play areas and water slides. The pool at Wantagh Park, which features a beautiful waterfront location, has been named "Best Public Pool on Long Island" by the Long Island Press, the weekly newspaper.

“Thanks to our Department of Parks, Recreation and Museums and their diligence in recruiting the most skilled lifeguards, residents can be assured that all Nassau County pool swimmers are under the watchful eye of experienced water safety professionals,” said Mangano.  “Bring the family for some safe summer fun in the sun.”

The large swimming complex at Christopher Morley Park in Roslyn-North Hills includes an Olympic-size pool, diving tank with boards, and a kiddie pool, framed by a beautiful wooded preserve. At Nickerson Beach Park in Lido, a 121-acre oceanfront park, there are two small pools as well as kiddie pools. The pools at Cantiague, Christopher Morley, North Woodmere and Wantagh parks also offer swimming lessons for adults and children over the summer.

County pools are open daily, now through Labor Day, and include various conveniences, such as lockers, dressing areas, showers, concession stands, lounge and deck chairs, and sun shelters.
