Mangano Offers Relief From The Heat by Announcing

Longer Pool Hours for Tueday

As temperatures soared into the upper-90s on Monday, July 5, and forecasters call for more of the same for today, Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano is extending by one hour the closing times at the County’s four major outdoor swimming pools today, Tuesday, July 6.

“Nassau County’s outdoor pools provide residents with a terrific place to exercise, have fun and beat the heat, and with the temperatures climbing to particularly oppressive levels we’re going to provide an extra hour of relief,” says Mangano.

With the one-hour extension, the pools at Cantiague and Christopher Morley parks will be open until 7 p.m. (from 10 a.m. at both pools); at Wantagh Park until 7:45 p.m. (opening at 11 a.m.); and at North Woodmere until 8 p.m. (opening at 11 a.m.).

At Cantiague in Hicksville (571-7056), North Woodmere (571-7800) and Wantagh (571-7460) parks, the County provides “water theme” facilities that incorporate Olympic-size swimming pools, diving pools, “kiddie” pools, interactive water-play areas and water slides. The pool at Wantagh Park, which features a beautiful waterfront location, has been named "Best Public Pool on Long Island" by the Long Island Press, the weekly newspaper.

The large swimming complex at Christopher Morley Park (571-8113) in Roslyn-North Hills includes an Olympic-size pool, diving tank with boards, and a kiddie pool, framed by a beautiful wooded preserve.

Pools are open seven days a week, with admission available on a daily basis at all pools or on a seasonal basis, with fees varying by age and status as a Leisure Pass holder (available only to Nassau County residents).
