CYC Tournament Brings Thousands of Young Athletes to Nassau for First Time to Play Traditional Gaelic Sports

Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano announces that Eisenhower Park will host the 2010 Continental Youth Championship (CYC) Tournament, where teams from around the world will compete in traditional games of Gaelic football and hurling.

“I invite everyone to Eisenhower Park later this month to watch talented young athletes compete in these fast-paced games,” said County Executive Mangano. “I am proud that Nassau County will be hosting these games for the first time and welcome visitors to all that we have to offer here.”

Organized by the Gaelic Athletic Association, the CYC tournament will be held during the weekend of July 29-August 1, 2010 and will bring more 1,500 elite players from across the nation, plus teams from Canada, Ireland, and England. It is expected to be the largest gathering for this event since its inception in 2004, with more than 250 matches expected to be played over the 4-day period. The age of players ranges from Under 8 to Under 18.

An opening parade will take place on July 29th in Rockville Centre at 7:00PM, and Nassau County’s annual Irish Night concert in Eisenhower Park will be held as part of the closing celebration.
