Mangano Announces Second Annual Nassau County Executive’s “Cruise to the Show” Parade and Car Show

Al Jardine Concert in Eisenhower Park to Kick Off a Weekend Full of Family-Friendly Entertainment

Fundraising Events to Benefit Island Harvest and Winthrop Hospital’s Cancer Center for Kids

Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano has announced that the second annual “Cruise to the Show” parade and car show will be held on Sunday, September 18th. A concert and fundraising walk have also been added as part of the weekend-long festivities.

The Nassau County Cruise to the Show Concert will kick off on Saturday, September 17th at 7:00 p.m. at Eisenhower Park’s Harry Chapin Lakeside Theatre. The concert, featuring Beach Boy Al Jardine and the Rip Chords, is part of the Summer Concert Series at the Lakeside Theatre, which is made possible through proceeds collected from visitors staying in hotel and motel rooms throughout Nassau County. Since 2006, more than $10 million has been collected from these hotel stays. Nassau County residents benefit from the collection of funds through summer concerts, family programming, cultural enhancements and historic building restorations.

The concert is free to the public, but attendees are asked to bring two cans of non-perishable foods to support Island Harvest.

On Sunday, September 18th at 9:00 a.m. the “Cruise to the Show will begin at Briarcliffe College in Bethpage and continue to Eisenhower Park in East Meadow. More than 1000 vehicles of all makes, models and years will follow the parade route, and spectators are encouraged to watch them drive by along the parade route. Staging begins at 8:00 a.m., and the parade kicks off at 9:00 a.m., heading south on Stewart Avenue to Hempstead Turnpike before ending at Eisenhower Park.

Following the parade, the County will host a car show featuring live music by Kayla Starr and Columbus Circle, children’s activities, refreshments, craft and gift vendors, and of course, great-looking classic cars. Numerous trophies will be awarded to winners from different categories. Once again, attendees are asked to bring two cans of non-perishable foods to support Island Harvest.

Also happening on Sunday, September 18th will be the Cruise to the Show 5K Charity Walk to benefit Winthrop Hospital’s Cancer Center for Kids, which will be held at Eisenhower Park at 9:00 a.m. The walk will begin at the same time as the parade, and will end just as the cars begin to arrive at Eisenhower Park.

“As a car enthusiast, I am very excited to once again host this great event. This year, the ‘Cruise to the Show’ has expanded to include a variety of different activities for everyone to enjoy and will also benefit two great local organizations,” said County Executive Mangano. “If you have a car that you want to show off, or if you just want to enjoy the classic, fast, and unique cars, I invite you to come and spend a beautiful day at Eisenhower Park.”
