Mangano Calls On President Obama And Congress To Take Swift Action On Behalf of The Nation's Small Businesses

Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano joined Action Long Island (ALI), and other government and business leaders today in calling upon President Obama and Congress to convene the next National White House Conference on Small Business (WHCSB).

“Small businesses are the backbone of our economy,” said Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano. “It is imperative that swift action be taken to provide small businesses with the resources they need to create jobs and put people back to work during this struggling economy.”

Statistics indicate that small businesses create 65% of the net new jobs in America and half of the people who work in this country own or work for a small business. A WHCSM would provide thousands of small business owners from across the United States an opportunity to band in addressing the issues most important to private-sector job growth.

“In these challenging economic times, it is essential that we make all that is needed available to our small businesses which serve as our ECONOMIC ENGINE in order for them to create the jobs necessary to pull the nation forward,” said ALI Chairman Sheldon Sackstein.

The last WHCSB was held June 11-15, 1995 in Washington D.C. and was attended by approximately 2,000 small businesses, corporate officers and employees that discussed pressing issues affecting small businesses in America.

The ALI recently sent a letter to President Obama, LI’s Congressional Delegation and Senators Schumer and Gillibrand, calling for them to expeditiously set planning in motion for the next WHCSB. County Executive Mangano signed the letter along with NYS Senators Owen H. Johnson, Kemp Hannon, and Carl Marcellino, Assemblyman Michael Fitzpatrick, Suffolk County Legislators Tom Cilmi, Wayne Horsley, and Ed Romaine, Margot Garant, Mayor of Port Jefferson, The Wantagh, Lindenhurst, and Amityville Chambers of Commerce, The Nassau Council of Chambers of Commerce and many of ALI’s small business member companies.
