Mangano Calls On Minority Leader Yatauro To Drop Partisan Politics And Put Nassau Taxpayers First

County Executive Asks for Support of No-Tax Increase Budget & Real Reforms

Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano today urged the Legislature’s Democratic Minority Leader to join his effort to put Nassau’s taxpayers first by supporting his 2011-2012 Proposed County Budget.

In a letter sent to Minority Leader Diane Yatauro, Mangano responded to the criticisms made by the Minority in which they distort the sweeping reforms included in Mangano’s budget, which includes ending the “County Guarantee,” and significant spending cuts of $148 million.

“Minority Leader Yatauro continues to stand in the way of reforming Nassau’s finances. The reform plan I submitted to the Legislature for approval not only ends the “County Guarantee,” but puts an end to the past practice of borrowing annually against our children’s future,” said Mangano.  “To move Nassau forward, I must clean up the millions in future liabilities I inherited.  To suggest I created this liability is simply misleading and untrue.”

The County Executive also called for Yatauro to put partisan politics aside and work with his Administration. “I once again invite Diane to join some of her colleagues in working with me to fix our County,” said Mangano.
