Mangano Announces Grant From Target Stores Will Help Combat Heroin Addiction In Nassau County

Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano today announced that Nassau County is the recipient of a $2,000 Target Law Enforcement Grant that will help fund an awareness campaign aimed at combating heroin use in Nassau County.

“Target proves itself again to be a good neighbor and a believer in helping its surrounding communities,” said Mangano. “We are very grateful for the company’s assistance in this important health and public safety mission.”

Earlier this year, Mangano and the Nassau County Police Department announced an advertising campaign aimed at educating parents about the diversity of young people using heroin.

“The ads tell parents that it can be any child, from any walk of life who tries, gets hooked and possibly dies from heroin use,” said Mangano. “The County needs every bit of assistance in achieving this goal by placing the ads in as many places possible.”

The $2,000 will fund advertising buys in all mediums.

“Once again we see the benefits of the public and private sectors coming together for the better of the community,” said Mangano.

Target established the Law Enforcement Grant Program in 1990 to provide funding to law enforcement agencies across the country. Since that time, Target has supported local law enforcement agencies across the country by sharing ideas and resources through Target & BLUE™, which is part of Target’s commitment to innovative philanthropy and rooted in public/private partnerships that create safer communities.

“This grant will help us continue raising awareness of the dangers of heroin use,” said Mangano. “Every resource should be exhausted to save people from the pain of addiction.”
