Mangano, Nassau Chambers Urge Residents To Shop Local This Holiday Season

As employers and families do their best to make ends meet in these difficult economic times, Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano today joined members of the Nassau Council of Chambers of Commerce (NCCC) and local business owners at a press conference to ask residents to consider keeping their dollars local by shopping in neighborhood stores.

“Our mom and pop stores are the

lifeblood of Nassau’s economy and the foundation of our communities,” said Mangano. “They need our support.”

For the second year in a row, the NCCC have encouraged people it shop locally through their marketing campaign, "It starts Here...Buy Locally." County Executive Mangano has joined the effort to bring awareness to the importance of our local neighborhood stores.

“Now that Black Friday and Cyber Monday have come and gone, it’s time to return to our local neighborhoods stores, said Mangano. “Small businesses create 65% of the net new jobs in America, and that half of the people who work in this country own or work for a small businesses.”

NCCC represents 42 local chambers and has 6,000 members. They play a vital role in the community as employers and support important local causes.

“Small businesses employ our neighbors and friends, and they help sponsor little league teams, soccer teams or when a neighbor is in need,” said E. Christopher Murray, NCCC President. “The money you spend with local businesses stays right in your community.”

Mangano, who has been a small business owner, says a shopper can have a very different experience in a local store.

“There is a personalized service and familiarity that is symbolic of patronizing a small store,” said Mangano. “It is very much Nassau County tradition, and I am proud to help spread the message to shoppers today and throughout the year
