Mangano Announces Free Long Island Philharmonic Concert And Benefit For Island Harvest

Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano today announced that the Long Island Philharmonic will be performing in Nassau County’s “Holiday Spectacular” concert on Friday, December 9th at the Butler Building at Mitchel Athletic Complex in Garden City. The two-hour concert will begin at 7:30 p.m.

Admission will be free, but tickets are required. Free tickets are available at all Bethpage Federal Credit Union branches, as well as at the Administration Building at Eisenhower Park. The concert is co-sponsored by Nassau County Parks, JJT Energy and Bethpage Federal Credit Union. There is no cost to taxpayers. All attendees are asked to bring five non-perishable food items, which will be collected by Island Harvest.

The Long Island Philharmonic, the island’s spectacular symphony orchestra, will perform a varied holiday program featuring classical pieces by Vivaldi, Tchaikovsky and Rimsky Korsakov, and seasonal favorites including Anderson’s “Sleigh Ride” and “A Christmas Festival.” The program finale will include a Christmas Pops Sing-Along.

The orchestra will perform under the direction of guest conductor Glen Cortese. Mr. Cortese is in his fifth season as music director of the Greeley Philharmonic, his seventh season as artistic director of the Western New York Chamber Orchestra and is now in his twenty-fifth season as music director of the New York Chamber Sinfonia. Mr. Cortese is also an accomplished composer and winner of numerous awards.
