Mangano, Mulvey Celebrate Success Of "LI Fugitive Finder"

436 Fugitives Caught Since Magazine’s Launch

Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano was joined by Police Commissioner Lawrence Mulvey at a press conference celebrating the anniversary of the Long Island Fugitive Finder magazine. An average of more than two criminals per week have been captured with the help of Long Island Fugitive Finder since it’s launch four years ago, Nassau and Suffolk County Officials announced today. Along with Owner Dean Murray, Mangano announced that as of December 2010, a total of 436 cases have been closed, and fugitives caught, with the help of the Long Island Fugitive Finder magazine and website.

“Long Island Fugitive Finder is an invaluable tool that helps law enforcement track down criminals. I applaud Dean’s vision to not only start such a publication, but to work so hard to ensure that it makes an impact in our communities,” said County Executive Edward P. Mangano. “Help us catch a criminal by visiting www.LIFugitiveFinder.com. If you recognize someone, let us know by dialing Nassau County Crime Stoppers 1-800-244-TIPS.”

“The Long Island Fugitive Finder magazine and website is a prime example of how the public and private sectors can work together for the betterment of the people, without any extra cost to the taxpayers,” said Murray, the owner of D & S Advertising, which publishes several local magazines and websites. Murray launched the magazine after the attempted robbery of an employee of his company.

Launched in January 2007 in conjunction with the Suffolk County Crime Stoppers, the L.I. Fugitive Finder magazine and website has helped law enforcement officials nab hundreds of fugitives. Nassau County Crime Stoppers joined in March 2007 and officials say the innovative initiative has led to the apprehension of numerous fugitives from justice over the past four years.

The Long Island Fugitive Finder magazine and website publishes photos and information of individuals wanted by the police for a variety of criminal offenses including murder, rape, robbery, and narcotic offenses. The monthly publication is free to the public, and 25,000 copies are distributed at hundreds of locations throughout Suffolk, Nassau and Queens. In addition, all information is also listed at www.Lifugitivefinder.com, which receives hundreds of hits per week.

“It is important that law enforcement in Suffolk County ensures we are taking dangerous fugitives off our streets and bringing them to justice,” said Suffolk County Executive Steve Levy.

“Fugitive Finder is a great means to alert the public that there are individuals in our communities who refuse to be held accountable for their criminal conduct. Recognize a fugitive, call Crimestoppers and help us help you have a safer community,” said Nassau County Police Commissioner Lawrence Mulvey

"I was standing with Dean when he launched the magazine in 2007, and I am thrilled to see how well this initiative has worked, not only for the police, but for the citizens of Long Island as well," said Suffolk County Legislature Minority Leader Dan Losquadro.
