COUNTY EXECUTIVE MANGANO SUPPORTS NEW NUTRITIONAL SCORING SYSTEM AT KING KULLEN STORES

Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano supports King Kullen’s NuVal Nutritional Scoring System recently implemented in all 45 of its Long Island and Staten Island locations that promotes a healthier lifestyle. County Executive Mangano recently attended a press conference hosted by “America’s First Supermarket,” King Kullen, where they introduced this new nutritional scoring system, known as NuVal, which was designed to enhance the shopping experience and to help shoppers make healthier and well informed purchases. Some items receive a NuVal score from 1 to 100; the higher the score, the better the nutrition. Scores are posted on supermarket shelves and signs throughout the store, making it easy for consumers to compare the overall nutrition of the foods they buy at a glance.

“There is no doubt that food nutrition labels, ingredients labels, and advertising euphemisms have all come together in a hail of confusion that inhibits the ability to make informed decisions about nutrition,” said County Executive Mangano. “Implementing the NuVal scoring system is the most ambitious step taken to promote nutritious eating on Long Island. My hope is that this will encourage Long Island families and seniors to eat healthier. Together with daily exercise, we can all live healthier lives. In my County, we’ve already started a Fit Nassau campaign to promote better health among our employees and residents.”
