Mangano Celebrates Success Of Annual "Valentines For Veterans" Program

Thousands of Handmade Cards and Letters by Nassau Students to Brighten the Lives of Disabled Area Veterans

Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano announces that more than 20,000 valentines handmade by students across the County for hospitalized veterans have been collected as part of the “Valentines for Veterans” program.

A coordinated effort between Nassau County and localelementary schools, the annual“Valentines for Veterans” program is part of National Salute to Hospitalized Veterans Week. Each February, Nassau County school children open their hearts by sending homemade cards and letters to veterans living in hospitals and nursing homes. School teachers can also use the week to educate students about the importance of honoring the service of our nation’s veterans.

“The Valentines for Veterans program has always been a rewarding experience for both those giving and receiving. I thank all of the students who participated this year for their creative cards and letters, all of which will bring cheer to our veterans who are most in need,” said County Executive Mangano. “In this small way, we are letting our veterans know that they and their sacrifices are not forgotten.”

The Nassau County Veterans Services Agency will deliver the students’ cards in time for Valentine’s Day on February 14th.
