Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano announced today that Nassau County once again participated in the “Greening of Nassau” project, which brought 52 trees and incidentals to 51 different school districts in Nassau County.
Since 2009, Nassau County has partnered with ReLeaf, Cornell Cooperative Extension, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Audubon Society and the League of Women Voters to promote the program.
Participating schools began picking up trees and incidentals on April 26th at the Nassau County Department of Public Works Garage in Hicksville and planting them on school property with guidance from Cornell Cooperative Extension and other program partners, to coincide with Arbor Day.
“Students across Nassau County are learning that tree planting not only beautifies our communities, but it also makes a positive impact on our environment andencourages everyone to 'see the bigger picture' and protect our planet,” said County Executive Mangano. “Every tree that gets planted will play a role in making our communities greener, healthier, and more beautiful.”
