Mangano Attends Presidential Briefing In White House

Vice President Biden and Cabinet Members Discuss National Concerns with County Executives of America (CEA)

Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano met yesterday with United States Vice President Joseph Biden and other Cabinet Members in the White House during a Presidential Briefing given to the County Executives of America (CEA). CEA, which is comprised of county executives from across the United States, provides invaluable opportunities to work with other elected officials who are leading their municipalities in these tough economic times. On Oct. 1, 2010, Mangano was named to the CEA Board of Directors.

“I had a terrific opportunity to discuss the economic and national security issues facing Nassau County residents,” said County Executive Mangano. “I will continue to seek partnerships with both Federal and State officials to bring jobs to our region and put people back to work."

During the Presidential Briefing, County Executive Mangano had the opportunity to discuss the economy and national debt concerns with Vice-President Joseph Biden. United States Secretary of Homeland Security, Janet Napolitano, discussed working closely with the County Executive to advance the secure communities program which builds partnerships between Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and local jails to identify and deport criminal aliens.

In advance of the meeting, County Executive Mangano informed the White House that Nassau County continues to search for new and innovative ways to attract employers in such areas as Homeland Security, composite manufacturing, and the film industry. In doing so, the County Executive stressed that all levels of government must continue to seek ways to reduce costs and create an economic climate that is more business-friendly.

Mangano stated, “Fiscal challenges plague many governments throughout our nation -Nassau County is no exception. To turn this economy around, the Federal government must join Nassau County by reining in spending and eliminating costly mandates that result in higher property taxes. Here in Nassau we are joining forces with other municipalities to buy items in bulk and reduce costs for taxpayers. This should be a model for other governments nationally.”
