Mangano's Vision Of Job Creation Advances With Sale Of Former Grumman Property

A Vision to Stimulate Economy in Eastern Nassau

Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano today praised the Nassau County Legislature for approving the sale of 84 acres in Bethpage, once occupied by Northrop Grumman on land they leased from the U.S. Navy. The sale of this property returns 84.26 acres to the tax roll so that the land can be used to create jobs. The sale of this property advances County Executive Mangano’s vision of fostering economic development and job creation opportunities in the eastern portion of Nassau County’s Job Generating Corridor which spans from advancing a gaming facility at Belmont Park in Elmont to the west, to creating a state-of-the-art sports-entertainment destination center at the Hub, to Bethpage in the east.

“The sale of this property comes at a time when my economic development vision for the former Grumman-Navy property in Bethpage is taking hold. Homeland defense, film and television jobs are emerging as new industries right here in Bethpage,” said County Executive Mangano. “The redevelopment of the Hub, coupled with the development of Belmont Park to the west and this Grumman-Navy property to the east, is the catalyst Nassau County needs to stimulate our economy and create jobs and opportunities for our generation and future generations.”

Just a decade ago, this former defense industry property lost 20,000 jobs. County Executive Mangano has worked tirelessly to attract new jobs to the property. To date, over 15,000 jobs have returned to the property. Today's sale of this property will attract thousands of additional jobs to Nassau County in the field of homeland security and film and television production.
