Mangano: Nassau County Teams With "Runstart" To Provide 12-Week Training Program

Nassau teams with runstart for 12 week training program

Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano announced today that the County is again teaming up with the Greater Long Island Running Club to offer a new “RunStart” training program to help residents learn the “ABCs” of recreational running and generally enjoy a more healthy lifestyle. This program is part of the County Executive’s Fit Nassau initiative aimed at making Nassau County the healthiest County in the nation.

The program, which begins on June 15 and costs just $25, is being conducted in conjunction with the Nassau County Department of Parks, Recreation and Museums. Attendees will be provided with a 12-week program that instructs them on training methods, proper nutrition and hydration, footwear, and injury prevention.

The first session takes place at 6:30 p.m. at Mitchel Athletic Complex, located on Charles Lindbergh Boulevard just west of the Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale. The program will run for 12 consecutive Wednesday evenings beginning on the June 15 kickoff date, leading up to the “Farmingdale Mile” on August 31.

“Our partnership with the Greater Long Island Running Club on ‘RunStart’ provides interested residents with a low-pressure but effective training program for a nominal fee,” said County Executive Mangano. “This is another step we take to add affordable recreational opportunities as we continue to enhance the experience of the public in our parks system.”
