Mangano Announces BOCES Intern Program In Department Of Public Works

Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano today joined Nassau Department of Public Works (DPW) Commissioner Shila Shah-Gavnoudias in announcing an intern program at DPW that will bring students from Barry Tech BOCES to various locations throughout Nassau.

“This intern initiative will bring students to some of the County’s most important locations and provide invaluable experience to our future leaders,” said County Executive Mangano. “These are some of the most critical areas of County operations, and we look forward to having these students be a part of the team.”

Some of the duties that will be carried out by the interns include:

  • Four students doing data entry in the Asset Manage System to track inventory at Bay Park Sewage Treatment Plant. This is an unpaid project.

  • On July 5th, 12 BOCES students will report to Facilities Management. These students will be rotating from physical work for Facilities to data entry for Bay Park Sewage Treatment Plant. This is a paid program where the students will receive $9.00 per hour via a grant given to BOCES.

  • On July 5th, three BOCES students will report to Fleet Management. This is a paid program where the students will receive $9.00 per hour via a grant given to BOCES.

Nassau County will provide unpaid and grant-funded internships to dozens of students and recent graduates this summer. Last year, the Mangano administration ran one of the County’s most successful intern programs ever. The program fits in line with County Executive Mangano’s economic development plan and focus on keeping young people in Nassau.

“By providing this kind of experience, we can keep some of Nassau’s brightest young minds right here in Nassau County,” said County Executive Mangano. “An exciting opportunity to work for a major municipality will hopefully reinforce how great a place Nassau County has always been, and will always be.”
