Mangano Announces Grant To Help Combat Auto Theft And Insurance Fraud

Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano today announced New York State grant funding for a new Nassau County Police Department surveillance program aimed at reducing car theft and automobile-related insurance fraud.

“Too often, people’s cars are the subject of theft,” said Mangano. “And too often, that theft is orchestrated by the car owner to illegally collect insurance, and we all pay for that fraud. This new initiative will help decrease these crimes.”

The $146,300 grant, which is provided by the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services, has no financial impact on Nassau County. The Nassau County Police Department will utilize these funds to assign cops and detectives on an overtime basis to better provide oversight of these crimes.

“With every family, young person and senior citizen trying to make ends meet in these tough times we need to cut down on theft and insurance fraud to keep insurance premiums from rising,” said Mangano. “This grant helps Nassau Police tackle this issue head on.”
