NCPD Conducts Valuable Training Exercise

NCPD conducts training exercise

Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano (left) and Acting Police Commissioner Tom Krumpter (2nd from left) attended and oversaw an NCPD training exercise that focused on the coordination of department resources when dealing with a barricaded emotionally disturbed person and the apprehension of fugitives and terrorists. Units involved in the exercise included the Bureau of Special Operations, Emergency Services Unit, Air Bureau, Hostage Negotiations, Patrol and Canine Unit. The exercise began at 12:00p.m. on Briggs Street in Bellmore. The residential home that was utilized is slated for demolition and was provided to the Police Department by 3 Brothers Custom Homes of Bellmore (please see 3rd photo below).

“Today our Tactical Field Services Units of the Nassau County Police Department conducted a training exercise utilizing department resources which would normally be deployed in circumstances ranging from barricaded emotionally disturbed persons, to apprehending fugitives or terrorists,” said County Executive Mangano. “This integrated training, under the Command of Deputy Chief Frank Kirby, was similar to a real life scenario in order to better understand each unit’s role and function in such instances. Besides familiarity amongst the units we wanted to conduct an ‘after action’ meeting to discuss how the units can improve upon their response to be able to better serve the public in such dangerous situations. I would like to thank 3 Brothers Custom Homes for allowing us to utilize this home for the purposes of this exercise. Training such as this is key to fine tuning our skills and being ready in the event of an emergency.”
