Mangano Announces Dee Snider's 9th Annual Bikers For Babies Ride

Nassau Teams Up with March of Dimes Foundation for Nickerson Beach Event

Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano today announced that Dee Snider, lead singer of the popular heavy metal band Twisted Sister, will be holding his 9th Annual Bikers for Babies Ride at Nassau County’s Nickerson Beach Park on Sunday, September 25th at 11:00 A.M.

Over 2,000 motorcyclists are expected to join the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer and Honorary Chairman Dee Snider, along with the March of Dimes in the fight against premature birth. Registration for the 9th Annual Bikers for Babies Ride will begin at 9:00 A.M. and the bikers will hit the open road on a 45 mile, 60 minute route beginning at 11:00 A.M.

“Nassau County is proud to host Bikers for Babies right here in our community,” said County Executive Mangano. “Together, we will raise awareness for an important cause and raise vital dollars for the March of Dimes.”

Premature birth is a tremendous problem in the United States, affecting more than 480,000 babies and their families each year. It is the leading cause of death for babies during their crucial first month of life and since 1981, the rate of premature birth has risen a staggering 27% with nearly 50% of all premature births having no known cause.

For Snider, the cause is personal, as two of his four children were born prematurely, and he’s leading the fight to help other babies be born healthy. He adopted the March of Dimes Bikers for Babies as his charity of choice and after riding with the Connecticut Chapter of the March of Dimes for three years, Snider saw a need and created and chaired the event that carries his name, Dee Snider’s Bikers for Babies on Long Island, N.Y. Together with Dee Snider, the March of Dimes hopes to raise money to fulfill its quest of improving the health of babies, preventing birth defects and infant mortality.

“I’m honored to be a part of these events and proud of their success in raising funds to fight premature birth,” said Snider.
