Mangano Announces Plans To Attract Film Industry Jobs To Nassau County

Welcomes “Hollywood Stars Car Show” to Cradle of Aviation

Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano today announced plans to attract film industry jobs to Long Island.  While welcoming the “Hollywood Stars Car Show” to the Cradle of Aviation Museum in Garden City, Mangano outlined a vision for the creation of a unique “Autoseum” in Nassau County

“In the spirit of attracting film industry jobs to Nassau County and expanding what we started at Grumman Studios in Bethpage, I am now exploring the possibility of bringing this company to Nassau County to not only display the cars, but to also build them here and teach the trade,” said County Executive Mangano.

In addition to producing cars for the film industry, the Autoseum would also act as an institution of learning to educate individuals on the craftsmanship involved in a highly desirable field.  The one-of-a-kind museum would develop the cars of tomorrow and serve as an industry and commerce center right in Nassau County.

The Hollywood Stars Car Show is part of a campaign by the Committee for the Autoseum to create the museum, and some of the most famous movie, TV and custom cars in the world will be displayed, including the 1966 “Batmobile”, the James Bond “007” car, KITT from “Knight Rider”, and the “General Lee” from “The Dukes of Hazard”. Co-sponsored by George Barris, the “King of Kustom Cars”; Andy Perillo, a movie props and special effects specialist; and Mike Manning, President of the Autoseum, the two-day Hollywood Stars Car Show will also feature appearances by Antonio Fargas (“Huggie Bear” from “Starky and Hutch”), Butch Patrick (“Eddie” from “The Munsters”).

“There will be some priceless vehicles on display at the Cradle of Aviation this weekend,” said County Executive Mangano. “Every movie fan knows the ‘Batmobile’ and James Bond’s Aston Martin, and this show is a great opportunity to see them in real life and off-screen. I invite everyone to visit this amazing display of history.”

The “Hollywood Stars Car Show” will be held on Saturday, August 28 and Sunday, August 29, 2010 from 9am-6pm. The event offers the public a discounted admission of $10 per person to the Cradle of Aviation. For more information, please visit www.cradleofaviation.org or call (516) 572-4111.
