Mangano And Salvation Army Provide Meals And Comfort For Residents


Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano today announced that in an effort to support Nassau County residents who are still suffering from LIPA power outages, shower facilities will be available at two County pools and Mitchel Athletic Complex to accommodate residents free of charge. The County will also provide a free movie at Eisenhower Park Today, Thursday, September 1st at 7:00 P.M. at the Harry Chapin Lakeside Theatre. Additionally, Nassau County has teamed up with the Salvation Army to distribute meals to residents who are without power. The meal distribution center will be open Today, Thursday, September 1st and tomorrow, Friday, September 2nd, from 8:30 A.M. to 4:00 P.M., at the Salvation Army’s Freeport Community Center, located at 66 Church Street in Freeport.


“Many of our residents have been inconvenienced while LIPA works to restore power throughout Nassau County. Accordingly, I welcome anyone who may be in need to visit shower facilities at our County pools,” said County Executive Mangano. “I also invite everyone to come to Eisenhower Park and enjoy the last few carefree days before Labor Day with a movie under the stars.”


Beginning on Thursday, September 1st, shower facilities at North Woodmere Park will be available daily from 9:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. and 7:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. At Cantiague Park in Hicksville, the showers will be open from 8:00 A.M. to 10:00 A.M. and 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. At Mitchel Athletic Complex in Uniondale, the showers will be open from 7:00 A.M. to 9 P.M. Residents are encouraged to bring towels and soap.

The Twilight Saga-Eclipse will be shown at the Lakeside Theatre on Thursday, September 1st, as the final movie night of Nassau County’s Family Movie Night series. Bottled water will be available free of charge.
