Calls on Residents to Help Feed Hungry by Bringing Canned Foods to County Buildings
Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano has declared September as Hunger Action Month in Nassau County, as part of a joint effort with Long Island Cares – Harry Chapin Food Bank to raise awareness about the issue of hunger on Long Island. The Theodore Roosevelt Executive and Legislative Building will be illuminated in recognition of Hunger Action Month and food-drop sites will be located at 17 Nassau County facilities for donations of non-perishable food items from September 15 to September 30.
“Nearly 300,000 Long Islanders are struggling with hunger, and it is my hope that declaring September as Hunger Action Month will inspire our friends and neighbors to join our effort to end hunger in Nassau County and throughout the United States,” said County Executive Mangano. “I ask everyone to donate to their local food banks or to any of the drop sites located around Nassau County. Even one donation will make a difference.”
In addition to non-perishable food items, personal care products, baby food, household supplies, school supplies and pet food will also be accepted at the following locations:
