Mangano Opens Newly Renovated Ice Skating Rink At Cantiague Park

Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano opened Cantiague Park’s indoor ice skating rink after a significant renovation project, which was completed this month, on September 25th. The ribbon-cutting ceremony was followed by a free two-hour skating session hosted by the County to kick off the winter skating season.

During the summer, the County began the major renovation project at Cantiague’s rink that includes the installation of new boards and glass partitions, enhanced lighting, a new coat of paint for the stands and an improved drainage system.

“Although the County is facing a tough financial environment, we continue to make sensible investments in our infrastructure and future. In particular, we want to ensure that our parks are properly maintained, given their importance in the lives of residents,” says Mangano. “These improvements will give residents a more beautiful and modern rink to enjoy.”

Over the years, the Cantiague Park ice rink has played host to several Olympians, including Nancy Kerrigan, and also served as a practice facility for the New York Islanders hockey team. Of most importance, each year it serves thousands of residents who use it for private lessons, public skating sessions, parties and hockey leagues.

Centrally located in Hicksville on West John Street, Cantiague Park provides a range of activities spread over 127 acres, including an executive-level nine-hole, par-30 golf course and driving range; mini-golf; tennis, handball and basketball courts; a new multipurpose turf field and additional athletic fields; a large playground; picnic areas; and an outdoor swimming pool complex.
