Mangano Invites Nassau Fire Districts To Join Long Island Purchasing Council

Bid for Fire & EMS Equipment to Save Taxpayer Dollars

Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano today invited all fire districts throughout the County to participate in a bulk purchase bid for EMS medical supplies that is expected to be released next month.

The bid combines the purchasing power of Nassau and Suffolk counties, as well as fire districts in both counties, and is expected to save thousands of dollars on commonly purchased supplies. Issued by the Long Island Purchasing Council (LIPC) committee for Emergency Services & Fire Rescue Organizations, the bid will include such items as accountability Systems, Carbon Fiber Composite Air Cylinders and Fit Testing Equipment.

“This bulk bid not only includes common EMS-related items, but also the purchase of costly and specialized fire rescue equipment. If purchased in bulk through the Long Island Purchasing Council, there will be a savings of thousands of dollars,” said County Executive Mangano. “Initiatives like this benefit all taxpayers as they allow municipalities at all levels to reduce spending and save tax dollars.”

The Nassau County Police Department Emergency Ambulance Bureau expects to save thousands of dollars each year through this cooperative bid, which includes the purchase of more than 50 items. These include gloves; antiseptic, germicidal and alcohol wipes; Berman airway sets; emergency intubation packages; endotracheal tubes; suction catheters; sterile bandages; tape/ adhesive cloth; instant cold packs and extrication collars. The ambulance bureau currently uses about 3,500 of these items per year.

The LIPC expects to also to also issue future bids that would result in savings of several percentage points in addition to the standard New York State bid price.

Nassau County Fire Districts can join the LIPC at no cost or obligation. For more information about the LIPC, and to see a model resolution for joining and the joint purchase agreement to be signed, please visit www.lipurchasingcouncil.org.
