Mangano Announces The Grand Opening Of The New Dog Park In Eisenhower Park On October 13th

Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano today announced that in conjunction with LI-Dog and through the sponsorship of “Pet Supplies Plus of Long Island,” the grand opening of the new dog park in Eisenhower Park will take place on Saturday, October 13th. The new dog park is located at the junction of Salisbury Park Drive and Stewart Avenue.

The new dog park, which covers approximately 1.5 acres, is divided into two areas for large dog and small dog (25 pounds and under). Each section has shade structures, water stations, waste stations, treesand benches.

The festivities will kickoff at 11:00 a.m. with a ribbon cutting ceremony. The event will feature dogs available for rescue from local rescue groups including: North Shore Animal League, Bobbi and the Strays, and Yorkie911 Rescue. There will be vendor booths from Vets Choice, Dogswell, and Weruva. Pet Supplies Plus will be holding a raffle with the grand prize winner receiving a year of free dog food, with all proceeds going to the rescue groups in attendance. Additionally, there will be a show by Rick Caran and Team Jilli Dog, in which a group of Yorkies will be performing tricks. The Nassau County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (NCSPCA) will also be in attendance.

“Nassau County is pleased to be able to provide residents with an additional place to exercise and socialize their dogs,” said County Executive Mangano. Dog parks encourage responsible pet ownership and lead to better behaved dogs, which ultimately reduce shelter overcrowding, since the majority of dogs surrendered to shelters are given up due to behavioral problems.
