Mangano Awards Grant To The Village Of Cedarhurst To Improve Downtown Shopping District

Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano today announced that the County has awarded a $75,000 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) to the Village of Cedarhurst to rehabilitate municipal parking field #6 on the corner of Central Avenue and Maple Avenue. This parking lot is a vital component of the downtown shopping district. This project is a continuation of previously CDBG funded projects which included downtown street and parking improvements.

“The project is a great example of federal, county and local governments working together to improve one of Nassau’s downtown shopping district. From downtown revitalization efforts to improving parking, these funds help strengthen our communities and jumpstart the local economy,” said County Executive Mangano.

“In today’s economy, it can be difficult for local municipalities to make necessary, but costly, downtown improvements. Therefore, I’ve always been a proud supporter of the CDBG program and commend the partnership between Nassau County and the Village of Cedarhurst to improve the village’s downtown shopping district,” said Senator Charles Schumer.

“I’m glad that Nassau County was able to partner with the Incorporated Village of Cedarhurst to provide these vital funds to improve this municipal parking lot. The parking lot on Maple and Central Avenues is in the very heart of the Five Towns, and its upkeep is vital to the quality of life of residents and Central Avenue shoppers,” said Legislator Howard J. Kopel, the Majority Whip of the County Legislature.

“Cedarhurst is grateful to our County Executive, Edward Mangano for a $75,000 Community Block Grant. This Grant will provide the funding to rehabilitate Parking Field #6, which will include drainage, streetscaping, lighting and paving,” stated Mayor Andrew J. Parise, Village of Cedarhurst.

The CDBG Program is a Federal entitlement program that provides communities with resources to address a wide range of unique community development needs. CDBG funds can be used for a wide range of activities related to housing, economic development, commercial revitalization, public services, infrastructure and public facilities. The Nassau County Office of Community Development annually issues a Notice of Funding Availability and accepts applications from member municipalities and other eligible applicants for CDBG grant funded activities.
