Mangano Celebrates “Valentines For Veterans” Program

Thousands of Handmade Cards and Letters from Students to Brighten the Lives of Disabled Area Veterans

Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano announced today that more than 20,000 valentines cards and letters handmade by students across the County for disabled veterans have been collected as part of the “Valentines for Veterans” program.

“The Valentines for Veterans program is a rewarding experience for both students and local veterans. I thank all of the students for their creative cards and letters, all of which will bring cheer to our veterans who are most in need,” said County Executive Mangano. “The love our children have expressed in creating these valentines shows veterans that they and their sacrifices are not forgotten.”

A coordinated effort between Nassau County and local elementary schools, the “Valentines for Veterans” program is part of National Salute to Hospitalized Veterans Week. Each February, Nassau County school children open their hearts to hospitalized veterans by sending homemade cards and letters to veterans living at Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) medical centers. School teachers can also use the week to educate students about the importance of honoring the service of our nation’s veterans.

The Nassau County Office of Veterans Services will deliver the students’ cards in time for Valentine’s Day on February 14th.
