Mangano, Dale Report 77 Burglary Arrests

Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano and Nassau County Acting Police Commissioner Thomas Dale today reported the arrest of 77 burglary-related individuals in the past 8 weeks, with 54 arrests related strictly to residential burglaries. The arrest of eight individuals resulted in the closure of 34 burglary cases in 2012. According to police officials, a significant number of individuals arrested for home burglaries were addicted to or seeking prescription drugs. In January 2012, Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano directed Nassau County Acting Police Commissioner Thomas Dale to crack down on burglaries.

“Today we send a clear message to burglars – stay out of Nassau,” said County Executive Mangano. “The department’s intelligence led policing efforts including Real Time Intelligence, the Criminal Investigative Rapid Response Team (CIRRT), and the Aggressive Forensic Evidence Program including DNA, Fingerprint and other trace evidence has assisted officers in successfully capturing burglars.”

“Putting burglars behind bars is a top priority,” said Acting Police Commissioner Dale. “Nassau’s new Community Policing Plan will reassign 48 police officers from their desks and place them in the community to help address crimes such as this. If you break into a home in Nassau County, we will find you and arrest you.”

Nassau County Police Chief of Department Steven Skrynecki also provided an analysis of statistics related to burglaries. Since 2010 when County Executive Mangano took office, statistics indicate that overall major crime is down approximately 10% while residential burglaries are up by less than 1%. Even a 1% uptick is unacceptable! The following arrests clearly emphasize this:

  • Emania Shepard for burglaries in Baldwin, East Meadow, Jericho, Lynbrook and Rockville Centre.
  • Justin Urban for nine residential burglaries in North Valley Stream and Valley Stream.
  • Nicholas Bennett for a burglary in Valley Stream.
  • Brittney Waters and Gina Pfenning for seven residential burglaries in Bethpage, Hicksville and Massapequa.
  • Yobani Ruiz and Jeffrey Larios for six burglaries in Westbury, New Cassel and Levittown.
  • Kristopher Lospitalier for three residential burglaries in Bethpage.
  • Marc Matarazzo for two pharmacy robberies in Carle Place and Franklin Square.
  • Robert Fornal for a burglary in Bethpage.
  • Dean Taylor for a burglary in North Bellmore.
  • Michelle Cimetta for a burglary in Wantagh.
  • Victor Chetti for a residential burglary in Wantagh.
  • Ralph Dierberger for a burglary in Wantagh.

In addition to the arrests, County Executive Mangano and Acting Commissioner Dale will launch a preventative measure by installing permanent Prescription Drug Disposal Bins at all eight police precincts in Nassau County. Prescription Drug Disposal Bins provide residents the ability to anonymously turn in their unwanted, unused and/or expired painkillers and other pharmaceuticals so that they can be properly destroyed.
