Mangano Appoints Victoria Meyerhoefer As New Director Of The Office For The Aging

Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano today announced the appointment of Victoria Meyerhoefer as Director of the County’s Office for the Aging. Ms. Meyerhoefer has been with Nassau County for 25 years and comes from the Nassau County Office of Behavioral Health where she has worked for the previous 12 years as a vocational and employment counselor. She brings to her new position a wealth of experience in problem-solving, developing collaborations, overseeing budgets, and supervising staff and volunteers. As Director, she will oversee a staff of 32 and a budget of $17.6 million.

“We are pleased to welcome Victoria Meyerhoefer to her new position,” said County Executive Mangano. “Victoria will further the Office’s goals and objectives and will also foster new relationships with agencies that can bring additional services to our older citizens.”

The Office for the Aging is currently under the umbrella of the Nassau County Department of Human Services, and is one of four offices that respond to the needs of specific constituencies. Nassau County has nearly 290,000 residents who are 60 years of age or older – approximately 20% of its population. The mission of the Office for the Aging is to develop and coordinate programs and services that will enable older persons to remain safely in their homes and communities, thus delaying or negating the need for more costly hospitalizations and institutionalizations.

“I am looking forward to working directly with Victoria,” said Lisa A. Murphy, Commissioner of the Department of Human Services. “At a time when our senior population is steadily increasing and we are striving to maximize our resources, she will bring a fresh approach to service delivery and an introduction to many new contacts that we can tap for assistance. Her outstanding work ethic, sound judgment, and flexibility are well-known, and she will be an enormous asset to our operations.”

The Office for the Aging is the recipient of federal and state funds that are leveraged to provide community-based services in areas such as nutrition, legal, financial counseling, case management, home care, and adult day care. Its Help-Line, web site, and resource publications provide up-to-date information about a variety of available programs and services.
