Mangano Announces Nassau County Soil And Water Conservation District’s Wine For Water Wise Land Use Art Contest Party And Silent Auction

Working Toward a Greener Nassau

Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano announced that Nassau County Soil and Water Conservation District (NCSWCD) will host the Wine for Water Wise Land Use Art Contest Party and Silent Auction on Thursday, June 14th from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Fairgrounds Barn at Old Bethpage Village Restoration with a live performance by Pearl Street Band. The Wine for Water Wise Land Use Art Contest is a fundraiser to support Nassau County Soil and Water Conservation District’s efforts to build rain gardens, community gardens, butterfly gardens and to educate the public and “green” environmental practices to conserve local natural resources.

All entries will be entered into a silent auction and must reflect the natural environment. Submissions can include handmade pottery, decorated store bought pottery and tools, one-of-a-kind artwork, sculpture, photography or woodwork. The entries will be judged 25% each for originality, quality of design, overall quality of work, and environmental consideration, i.e. use of native plants, encouragement of wildlife, water conservation, peat free, chemical free and composting. The results will be announced during the awards ceremony at the Wine for Water Land Use Art Contest Party and Silent Auction.

All entries, including the registration form and the $20 registration fee, must be submitted by 4:00 p.m. on Friday, June 1st. The $20 registration fee includes admission for the artist and one guest to the Contest Awards Party. Admission to the Wine for Water Wise Land Use Art Contest Party and Silent Auction is free for contest entrants, $25 for those going to the party who RSVP by June 1st and $35 for those who RSVP after June 1st or pay at the door.
