Mangano Announces $622,680 For Summer Youth Employment In Hempstead & Oyster Bay

County Executive Edward P. Mangano announced today that Nassau has successfully obtained increased funding for Summer Employment Programs from the New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance (OTDA). This year’s allocation of $622,680 exceeds the 2011 allocation of $467,060 - an increase of more than 30%. County Executive Mangano noted that the Town of Hempstead will be awarded $467,060 and the Town of Oyster Bay awarded $145,620 to implement employment programs for participating youth.

County Executive Mangano stated, “I’m proud that by working with the towns, we can provide summer employment and classroom training to hundreds of young people. From developing skills and gaining workplace experience, these programs help our youth become productive members of the community while reinvesting state tax dollars here in Nassau’s local economy.”

Town of Oyster Bay Supervisor John Venditto added, ”The Oyster Bay-North Hempstead-Glen Cove WIB appreciates that Nassau County and the NYS Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance are supporting our summer youth employment programs. We will now be able to provide jobs for youth to work at local school districts and community based organizations.”

Town of Hempstead Supervisor Kate Murray stated, “We are pleased to receive this funding from Nassau County and the New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance to once again support our WORKS Summer Youth Employment Program. For the past decade, these funds have helped us to provide summer employment and classroom training to hundreds of young people from low income families. Considering how important it is to gain work experience and work maturity at early age, this funding will not only put dollars into the local economy this summer, but it is also a solid investment in the workforce of the future.”
