Mangano’s Effort Saves the Games for a Second Year in a Row
Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano recently announced that the Nassau County Empire State Games for the Physically Challenged will take place as scheduled this year from TODAY, May 31st through Saturday, June 2nd at the Mitchel Athletic Complex and Nassau Community College.
County Executive Mangano formed the Committee to Save the Games in 2011 after New York State announced plans to eliminate all funding for the Empire State Games. The Committee successfully reached its fundraising goal due to the generosity of local businesses, schools, and citizens in the community.
Opening Ceremonies will take place on TODAY, May 31st at the Mitchel Athletic Complex from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Competition and demonstrations are Friday and Saturday at Mitchel Athletic Complex and Nassau Community College. Athletes ranging in age from 5 to 21, who face a variety of disabilities, will compete in track, field, slalom, swimming, wheelchair basketball and table tennis. Closing Ceremonies will take place on Saturday, June 2nd, at Nassau Community College, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
