Mangano To Host Fundraiser To Benefit Nassau County Empire State Games For The Physically Challenged

Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano will host a fundraiser to benefit the Nassau County Empire State Games for the Physically challenged Tuesday, May 21st beginning from 6:00pm to 9:00pm at H.R. Singletons in Bethpage. Nassau County will be hosting the Games for its third consecutive year.

“I ask you to join me in continuing to save the games as I host a fundraiser May 21st at H.R. Singleton’s in Bethpage,” said County Executive Mangano. “As County Executive, I know firsthand the joy and triumph the Games have brought to its athletes, coaches, family members, and our community. For the past two years, we have successfully funded the Games and will continue to do so, but not without your help!”

The 2013 Nassau County Empire State Games for the Physically Challenged will take place from May 30th through June 1st at Mitchel Athletic Complex and Nassau Community College. Athletes will compete in track, field, slalom, archery, swimming, wheelchair basketball and table tennis. Participants ranging from ages 5 to 21 face disabilities including blindness, visually impaired, deaf, hearing impaired, spinal cord injured, amputees and those who have cerebral palsy, dwarfism and other physical challenges.

Hors d’oeuvres and non-alcoholic drinks will be served with a $40 donation that includes one door prize ticket. Gift basket donations are being collected for the Charity Auction that will take place during the event. Grand prizes already accepted include a laser facsimile 2012 New York Jets Team signed replica football valued at $245, New York Rangers Rich Nash autographed jersey, New York Knicks Carmelo Anthony autographed jersey, two Delta 360 New York Yankees tickets to any games in June, a two night stay at Walt Disney World’s Swan and Dolphin Resort, along with other great prizes.

The cost of participation is free and the numbers of athletes increase each year, boasting over 1,000. The dedication brought forth by the parents, families, teachers, coaches and volunteers are critical to the success of the Games. Operating with a small staff, the Games are facilitated by those who return year after year to a program they love.
